So you have built your own website, great! Now you need to attract visitors? If people do not know you're there, and if your not listed in the search engines, your visitors will never find find you. And if your visitors can't find you, you can't make any sales. SEO will make your website noticeable on the internet, and this short guide will help you bring targeted website traffic to your site.

Optimize your website The most important part of your site is the content that you have on it. Search engines will crawl your site and index the content into a database. If your content doesn't match the product you are selling, you will not get the most targeted visitors. It is therefore very important that you choose your keywords very carefully and make sure they are on your site. For instance, if you sell calculators online, make sure you use the words calculator, adding machine, math and other calculator related keywords on your site. Be careful not to mention the words too often. Search engines might think your website is spam site, which will result in a very low rank within the search results.

Linking When websites link to your site, the more attention and weight you will get from search engines, which results in higher ranking. Search engines use the backlinks like votes for your website. When you can get links from other websites to your website, make sure important keywords are used as anchor keywords in the hyperlink. If you sell calculators online, use a link such as, "cheap calculator" instead of "click here".

Targeting Your Traffic When leaving your link on sites be sure to leave it on sites where you may find people interested in your products. So if you are selling calculators or adding machines you should leave your link in a college chat room or a forum where accountant frequent. This will give you targeted traffic from the links themselves.

Use Offline Marketing Strategies Don't forget about sending people to your website by advertising offline. Like hanging flyer's in stores, or using newspaper ads.

Use a Site map Make sure to put a sitemap on your website. This will help the search engines index every page of your website. Site maps will make it easier for the search engines to crawl every page.

Write Your Website For Search Bots The search engines send bots to your site to read what your site is about. However the bots can only read the text on your site, so if your entire site is flash animation, banners and JavaScript, the search engines won't give your site that much credit. But if your site is mainly text, the search engines will love you.

Are You Using Frames If you are using frames in your site, STOP now. Rebuild your site without frames. For the most part if a crawler comes to your site and it has frames it may very well simply not read your site and move on.

Spamming This should come as no surprise, but don't spam other sites with your links. Meaning, don't create thousands of links with the keyword "calculators" and no other keyword's. This could cause some of the search engines to ban your site in the results. You should use 3 to 5 anchor text keywords in your links.

And for the final thought... Make sure that you submit your website URL to all the search engines and directories you can each and every month. This will insure that your site is always indexed in the results. - 33376
